Line/Load Reactors Manufacturer and Supplier in USA
September 7, 2022What is a Line Reactor? | What is a Load Reactor?
Generally, a load reactor is used on the load side of a motor. A line reactor is used on the line side of a drive for power distribution. Based on the principle known as reactance, line reactors and load reactors help limit line distortions, harmonics, surges, and spikes to protect more expensive manufacturing equipment.
A Line or Load Reactor are devices that consist of a steel core wrapped with copper coils. These coils form a magnetic field that current flows through. This magnetic field impedes the rate of rise of current.
If, for instance, a Variable Frequency Drive (VFD), is hit with a surge of electrical current – this can be catastrophic. As an added layer of protection, a line reactor may be added to prevent equipment failure, production downtime, and loss of revenue.
Line/Load Reactor Expert
Badger Magnetics is an expert in the design and manufacturing of line reactors and load reactors.
For harmonic reduction purposes, Badger Magnetics’ design typically applies 5% impedance line reactors to the input of motor drives. This reduces input harmonics to 35% total harmonic current distortion (THID) or less and minimizes the effects of harmonics on motors and other devices powered off the same electrical system.
